Being grateful is tough. Does that shock you? Well, if it isn’t, why is it that so many people forget to be grateful?
First of all, it’s important to realize that being grateful is a ‘chosen attitude’. You have to actually choose to have grateful feelings about things in your life and then begin to make it a habit.
Why is that so hard for so many people to be grateful? It’s difficult to be grateful because they must give up being a ‘victim’. They must give up the attitude that people owe them something-and that what they don’t have is somebody else’s fault.
How can you be grateful when you are thinking poor me? How can you be grateful when you feel what you have is owed to you? You can’t. So, you’ve chosen the victim mentality, it’s time to choose again. Time to choose to be grateful.
“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.” Epictetus
This quote says it all. Victims grieve for the things they don’t have, however grateful people continually rejoice in what they have.
